Review of The Surrogate by Louise Jensen

4 out of 5 stars

I wasn’t sure what to make of this book while I was reading it and I’m still not sure what to think of it. On one hand I did enjoy this book and all of its suspense and gasp worthy moments. But then on the other hand I found myself severely annoyed with the main character to the point where I wanted to smack her.

This book is about Kat who wants a baby so bad but unfortunately she can’t conceive one. Her and her husband Nick have had two adoptions fall through on them so when Kat runs into her old best friend that she hasn’t seen in 10 years and finds out she has been a surrogate mother before she thinks it’s fate that they ran into each other. Putting the past behind them and moving on from a tragic accident that took Lisa’s twin brother and Kat’s first love Lisa becomes pregnant and Kat believes she’s finally getting what she’s always wanted, a baby. But when Kat starts thinking people are watching her and mysterious things start showing up she wonders if Lisa still isn’t over the past and is seeking her revenge.

I did enjoy moments of this book a lot and the ending did throw me for a major loop which is true Louise Jensen style. I know there are women in the world beyond desperate to have a baby but some of the things that Kat did and thought about doing honestly made me want to call her a crazy bitch, even more so at the ending. I honestly didn’t care for any of the characters in the story that much but I feel the suspense and thrills made up for that. This book won’t stop me from reading more by the author but it definitely wasn’t my favorite.
