Dead to Her by Sarah Pinborough Review

3 STARS

Thank you so much to Harper Collins Publishers for the complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

This book was, well, interesting I guess is the best word I can think of. I’m only giving it 3 stars because I love Sarah Pinborough’s writing style and how easy it is for me to read. I never get bored reading her works and I feel that it’s fairly quick for me to read.

However, this book, UGH. I wanted to love this book so much more after reading Behind Her Eyes which has one of the best plot twists of all time in my opinion. As a general rule for myself, I never read a thriller’s synopsis before reading the book and this book immediately drew me in from the beginning. I was loving the characters and the slow storyline that kept me constantly guessing when there was going to be a big plot twist. And then I got to the end of the book and I was honestly confused, I felt like I was just hit over the head with a large book and had temporarily lost all coherent thoughts. I will give it kudos though because if that was meant as a huge reveal and plot twist at the end, I will give the author props because I DEFINITELY did not see that coming.

Other than the bizarre ending, I do like how the ending wasn’t rushed like some thrillers are. The whole book itself was slow in pace (but not in a bad way) so I’m happy that it was somewhat drawn out (again, not in a bad way). I didn’t love the characters in the same way I did in the beginning but that’s okay because I understand how it was all integrated into the story.

I still plan on reading other Sarah Pinbourough books because I really do enjoy her writing style. I’m just hopeful that the next one I read doesn’t have such a weird ending.
